Major Group: NGOs

I am from Chile, and on behalf of the NGO Major Group, I would like to make the following points:

We wish to stress the importance of having a 10-Year Framework of Programmes. Despite it being one of the five CSD themes, we have hardly heard it mentioned over the past days and we do not want to see it lost.

Indeed, the 10-Year Framework is necessary to support the numerous regional and national initiatives intended to implement Agenda 21 and the JPOI in order to reverse the worsening ecological and social trends.

We also call on the UN-member States to create the necessary conditions for an international 10-Year Framework of Programmes to function. Patterns of production and consumption which are damaging to the world seem to stem from a lack of coherence between policies, a lack of coordination between government departments at all levels, and a lack of substantial dialogue between civil society, government and business.
