Major Group: Children & Youth and Beyond 2015
STATEMENT

Your excellences,
Distinguished delegates,
Dear colleagues,
Let me start by thanking the Co-Facilitators for this opportunity to share with you -on behalf of Beyond 2015, the Major Group for Children and Youth and Espolea, my organization in Mexico- a few comments on the VISION for the Post-2015 Declaration.
Our common vision is that of…
… An equitable and sustainable world where every person is safe, resilient, lives well and enjoys their human rights; and where political and economic systems deliver well-being for all people within the limits of our planet’s resources.
While this may seem like just another long statement, it is actually a carefully crafted "recipe" based on 5 key “ingredients” identified through years of work gathering views of civil society, children, adolescents, and young people at national, regional and global levels.
The “5 essential ingredients” that we expect to see reflected in the Declaration evoke our vision for a world…
...where poverty, in all its dimensions, has been eradicated and the common good and well-being of ALL take precedence over the interests of a few;
… where human rights are realized - so States and ALL actors at ALL levels fulfil their human rights responsibilities so that all individuals of all ages and abilities can enjoy their human rights, including their rights to health, education, to live free from violence and discrimination, and to participate in processes that affect their lives. In this sense, the post-2015 declaration must commit to the realization of girls and women’s human rights, including their sexual and reproductive health and rights;
It is also a world where the environment is safeguarded and planetary boundaries are respected through sustainable natural resource management and a shift from the growth-paradigm to a new one where the economy has been reoriented to serve people and planet.
...a world where social justice is secured through systems and structures that ensure each individual’s equal opportunity and equal outcome to fulfil their own potential.
Finally, this is a vision of a world where peace, safety and security are a reality for all, where institutions and systems resolve conflict effectively, protect individuals from all forms of violence, and strengthen the resilience and capacity of communities and structures to reduce the risk of both natural and human-induced disasters.
To make this “recipe” a reality, the post-2015 Declaration should commit to the participation of all stakeholders and social groups in the implementation, monitoring and review of the agenda. In this line, we were concerned about the lack of references to children in the statements presented in the past days but we were glad to see some Member States highlighting the importance of children’s participation and understanding of the post 2015 agenda. We, therefore, call the co-facilitators and member states to facilitate a proof reading of the declaration by children and young people, to ensure that it is truly appealing, understandable and mesmerizing to all.
You are the “master chefs” of this crucial recipe that we are all looking forward to taste!
Thank you (or should I say - “Bon Appetit”?)
