Japan
Statement at CSD13 by Japan about IWRM on 12th April 2005
Thank you Chairperson. I will finish in the green light.
As Mr. Lenton mentioned, the plan of implementation of WSSD suggests
to develop IWRM and water efficiency plan by 2005. Japan suggests that
policy decision for each countries in this regard will be to initiate the
IWRM planning as its first step with cooperation of regional framework.
For example, in Asian Monsoon countries, they have common natural and
social backgrounds, rainy and rice crops and so on. Regional network such
as Network of Asian River Basin Organization (NARBO) plays significant
role for plan of IWRM in the region by sharing the experience and
information and by coordinating capacity building in the member countries.
Thank you.
