Major Groups session with COCHAIRS
I will speak on behalf my national organization, MEXFAM MEXICO, also as a member for the International Planned Parethood Federation and on behalf of the Women Major Group.
We welcome that gender equality it´s not only a stand along GOAL, but also a cross cutting issue on the agenda.
Nevertheless, we have some concerns considering that gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls will not be achieved until their sexual and reproductive rights are realized and their burdens of unpaid care work reduced and redistributed.
So, we have specific recommendations in PARA 21, which has been mentioned for the third time in this session; and willing to share with you in written.
We call for the inclusion of Human Rights in the paragraph.
As well as the mention to sexual and reproductive rights. Reference to women of all ages. And we recommend adding the word girls, seeking for a more balanced PARA given this PARA focuses on gender eqaulity.
WE recommend the inclusion of “ must enjoy a reduced burden of unpaid care work; as well as the right to quality education”
Finally, if we want to keep the high level of ambitious in our new endavour; we will need to remain committed to gender equality and women´s rights in the coming 15 years, and more to come.
I thank you.
