Statement by Denmark
Thematic Discussion: Investing in energy and industrial development, challenges and
opportunities (5 May 2006)
Thank you chairman
Denmark will have to direct a comment to the thoughts of Margo Thorning regarding carbon
intensity, in which Denmark do not completely agree. We can choose to measure the progress of
a country regarding emissions and compare it to any parameter we might think of. It is - however
- the belief of Denmark that the atmosphere do not care about carbon intensity. What does matter
is the reduction in total emissions. Since 1990 till now the total emissions in the EU have been
reduced while the US in the same time has increased its green house gas emissions.
Chair I hope you will excuse me for not contributing specifically to the issues of the session this
morning.
Thank you
