Cambodia
Dear Director of the CSD, Sir/Madam,
This is the text of comments made by Cambodia's Delegation as part of contributions to
the Meeting on 24 Feb, 2009 as follows:
Madam Chair, Excellencies, Distinguished Quests, Ladies and Gentlements
Cambodia would like to associate itself with the statement made by Sudan on behalf of
the G77 AND China.
Madam Chair
Cambodia would also like the commission to consider the modernization of agriculture in
a sustainable and ecological manner, as suggested as below:
1. setting up a policy framework at a high level for sustainable development following a
step-by-step approach to the integrative one to provide sufficient food supply on the basis
of the use of eco-agriculture and agro-agriculture as presented by the pannelists this
morning;
2. Broadening market access for agriculture produces from the developping countries, the
LDCs and the SIDS;
3. Having the CSD mobilize supports for Green Revolution in the 21st century through
the expansion of agricultural markets, multistakeholder engagement, the application of
techniques and technologies, i.e. biomass, biofuel and biotechnology as well as the
promotion of equitable trade for agriculture among the North-North, the South-South and
the South-North exchanges. A strong need is to establish a fund and technical and
financial mechanism for the LDCs, Developing Countries and the SIDS in order to
produce enough agriculture produces. The transfer of technology and funds transfers
from the Developed countries become neccessary for the production of agriculture to
address multisectoral challenges posed by the currently global economic crisis and the
impacts of climate change. The Green Revolution needs to have strong support from the
''Green Mentality''. This requires mainstreaming the Green Revolution into national
development policy plans and education. Such revolution can provide enough food
supply with sustainable environment.
4. Needing mulit partners for the development of agriculture
5. raising the value for agriculture produces
6. Cambodia supports the management of land, water, and natural resources for the
sustainable agricutlure in the context of diversification of crops, and changing patterns of
agriculture practices fruitful to the efficiency of the modern agriculture economy
following the path of an ecological system. Therefore, organic agricultural produces can
be supplied to satisfy the growing world population projected at 9 billion in 2050 on the
planet, without the destruction of the environment.
Thank you. Madam Chair
Yours Sincerely,
By Dr. CHHUN Vannak
