Meeting Challenges for the Urban Future

Rapid urbanization and industrialization have offered to humanity the abundant fruits of modern civilization, but at the same time they have brought unprecedented challenges. Sustainable urban future depends on the establishment of harmony between diverse peoples, between development and environment, between cultural legacies and future innovations. This side event aims to share China?s experience and perspectives on sustainable urban development with participants at Rio. Discussions will focus on achievements and lessons learned, as well as difficulties encountered during the recent urbanization. Representatives and experts from China as well as the host country, together with senior United Nations officials and experts, will share with the audience their respective experience and expertise in the specific fields of sustainable urban development.
