Background
When London bid to host the 2012 Olympic Games and Paralympic Games, it made a radical proposal to the International Olympic Committee. This proposal was entitled ?Towards a One Planet Olympics?. London committed not simply to put on the biggest sporting event in the world, but to host the world?s first truly sustainable Olympic and Paralympic Games.
This builds on the work of previous Host Cities and recognises the Olympic and Paralympic Movement?s growing voice in the global debate on sustainable development. At the heart of this is the role of sport as a powerful lever of change, improving lives across the world.
