Women Entrepreneur Project (Projeto Mulher Empreendedora)
Description
The discussion of women's work today reflects directly on the invisibility experienced by women, as well as the devaluation of women in the labor market constituted over the years. Regarding the salary difference between women and men, the average per capita income of women is R $ 543.45 while men receive R $ 565.71. This reality motivated the Caruaru Women's Policy Department to develop and implement policies, like the Entrepreneur Women Project, which contributes to the empowerment of women in the labor market, seeking to break with unequal conduct in gender relations and to cooperate for empowerment women's economic development.
The objective of the practice is to promote and encourage female entrepreneurship in the city of Caruaru - PE, through continuous and founded training for the empowerment of women, aiming their economic autonomy. From the continuous training of women, the Project encourages the commercialization of products and services produced by women Entrepreneurs in popular events that foster the occupation of these in the most diverse spaces. The Entrepreneur Women Project began in March of 2017, primarily with actions and mobilization in the city of Caruaru, through the Secretariat of Policies for Women. The women presented themselves to the Secretariat with the interest in divulging their products and in search of an incentive for the productive chain in the context in which they are inserted. Subsequent to the mobilization of women, the period of continuous enrollment began, followed by lectures and workshops with partners of the Secretariat. After a month of training with continuous meetings and evaluations, in June 2017, Caruaru women participated in the 1st edition of the Fair of Entrepreneur Women in the Popular Fest of São João in 2017 and 2018, followed by the Fair of Entrepreneur Women - Pink October 2017, Christmas Fair in December 2017 and 2018 and the Holy Week Fair in April 2018.
The profile of the beneficiaries of this practice is characterized by women who want to undertake in several segments in the city of Caruaru-PE and who are in a situation of vulnerability. Currently, the beneficiaries of the practice undertake in the area of gastronomy and handicrafts, and can be expanded to other segments. Initially, the number of women enrolled in the Project was 25 registrations, with an increase of more than 100% in the number of registrations to the during the year, resulting in 90 entrepreneurial women involved in the practice. The Project was conceived and carried out with the direct participation of women, always seeking dialogue and the involvement of women in the planning and execution stages of the project's proposed schedule. The Project started in March 2017 and was created by the Caruaru-PE Secretariat of Policies for Women, with the aim of training women entrepreneurs in the city, guaranteeing these women equal rights with regard to their financial autonomy. After enrolling in the Project, women started attending a series of trainings and workshops, teaching them how to market their handicraft products. Training was done in price, personal marketing, associativism, cooperativism and entrepreneurship. These trainings guarantee women greater performance in commercial sales and primarily in the recognition of their rights as women. The monitoring of the Project has been carried out by the Secretariat team through evaluations with the beneficiary members of the Project. All meetings are recorded in minutes of presence and periodic evaluations are carried out.
The main barriers encountered in the development of the Project were: the lack of access of the women participating in the Project to formal basic education, giving a situation of vulnerability to participants in joining the process of continuous and informed formation during the Project. In this way, the process of female empowerment becomes slow and depends on the reliability of women in giving credibility to the public service. Other difficulties noted were the financial limitation to implement partnerships that goes beyond the contribution of information and knowledge and the difficulty experienced by women with the lack of access to working capital through banks and institutions, since the budget of the Secretariat for Women's Policies Caruaru is limited and requires financial partnerships for the maturation of this Project.
The overcome barriers during the development of the practice are related to the recognition and collaboration that was being built by the city so these women had access to other commercial spaces in Caruaru-PE. From this, the women entrepreneurs began to be present with their products in tourist sites and commemorative dates of the city. Finally, another overcome barrier was the growth in the number of women enrolled and participating in the Project, even though they did not have a complete basic education. The desire to bring about changes in society and in their own realities has led to greater cooperation and teamwork among all participants in the practice.
Sustainable development seeks to meet the needs and promote the well-being of current and future generations, reassessed in a development that does not seek to deplete resources for the future. The Entrepreneurial Women Project adopts the Sustainable Development Objectives 5 and 8, which are based on gender equality and women's empowerment. The Project seeks, as of ODS 5 and 8, to enable women to receive the same incentives and professional opportunities as men, as well as equal access to occupy the commercial spaces in the city of Caruaru; since unemployment directly affects women who do not have access to basic formal education, such as the beneficiaries of this practice. Thus, the Project promotes entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation, encouraging the formalization and growth of micro, small and medium enterprises by women.<br />
The Women Entrepreneurs Project deals daily with the resilience of the women involved in the Project, even in the face of vulnerable situations and difficulties faced each day, as the Project seeks to promote women's autonomy and encourage teamwork. The practice is a pioneer in Agreste Pernambucano, being the only project in the city that seeks to empower women through female entrepreneurship. Upon receiving the recognition of a practice that provides the ODS, it will be possible to increase Project visibility in the city and in other institutions, financially and institutionally encouraging the Project to grow, inspiring other projects in neighboring cities and motivating women to seek cooperation and autonomy.
