Skills Village 2030 - Xperience 2030 SDG Challenge
Description
xPerience 2030 is planned as a Social Media documentary for shared learning and earning. It is planned to document the daily activities, as young social entrepreneurs use events aligned to the SDG’s to create micro-economies that maximise the multiplier effect, minimize leakage and increase the socio-economic and environmental health and wealth of local communities. Creating co-operative work integrated learning and earning sustainable spaces by creating events and activities aligned to the 17 Sustainable Development Goal Events. The plan is to launch the Xperience 2030 SDG Challenge "creating micro-economies for Social Change" for unemployed youth, grads, interns and where business can offer workplace experience, funding for enterprise, supplier and skills development .South Africa has a visionary policy called B-BBEE - Broad Based Black Economic Empowerment - and they hope to challenge business to invest in supporting 17 SDG Events. This would create a Work Integrated Learning for a year for 17 different event organizer groups, starting small in year 1 and building capacity for larger events in the future. Most importantly, the partners believe that this initiative will create a huge awareness of the SDGs through the TEN STEP PROCESS for engaging communities.More specifically,Step 1 consists of a Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow baseline, gathering the stories of the individual – the past, the present and the dream for the future.Step 2 – Mbawula Dialogues – Talking sharing opportunities Step 3 – GRID MAP – Mapping the local community – identifying local commodities, goods, services and experiences Step 4 – Identifying four cornerstone support spaces in the local community – a space for an Ubuntu TEA House, a space to learn, a space for business support and a space for Monitoring and Evaluating the daily experiences.Step 5 – Introducing two support structures – IFEA Africa – the International Festivals & Events Association Africa – to support the individual Occupation Development and ISHISHINI 2nd Coop for support services as the enterprises and cooperatives developStep 6 – The Birthday Club for Socio-Economic DevelopmentStep 7 – Community Market Day for Enterprise DevelopmentStep 8 – Delivering the SDG EventsStep 9 – Creating a Map for Event Tourism in the local Community Step 10- Monitoring, evaluating and reporting on an annual basis through the UMNOTHO Festival: 14 – 17th October which will include Events on National Disaster Reduction, World Standards Day, World Food Day, Global Hand washing Day, World Rural Women’s Day, International Day for Eradication of Poverty – 6 SDG events in one week
Between 2003 and 2007, IFEA was part of an initiative called EMBOK - Event Management Body of Knowledge - with a vision for the development of a professional body for Event Management . The progression from Event Assistant, to Event Support, Event Coordinator, Event Manager and Event Director would ensure that we could work with local communities to deliver safe, sustainable events which would meet the Health and Safety at Live events Standards, as well as the Safety at Events Act of South Africa. As well, Human Resources Canada through their certification programme, has been supportive of all our efforts and through this partnership, IFEA Africa - International Festivals and Events Association Africa - have worked with other industry associations in South Africa (Conference and Exhibition Associations) and the Professional Body - The Council of Event Professionals is currently in registration at SAQA - the South African Qualification Authority. So, partners are comfortable to be now ready to plan, prepare and produce safe events aligned to the Sustainable Development Goals - working with communities and using events to create an awareness of the SDG's. Over the last four years IFEA has developed a Secondary Co-operative - ISHISHINI Business Association Secondary Co-operative which is responsible for the Administration of the event value chain suppliers. ISHISHINI is responsible for the Finance, Human Resource Management, Information, Stakeholder Management, Governance, Compliance, Legal elements. IFEA Africa is responsible for the Continued Professional Development and Code of Professional Behavior for those working in this industry. IEM - The Institute of Event Management is the Event Architect - ensuring the design of safe, sustainable events that can increase the socio-economic and environmental health and wealth of local communities. They are also in the process of working with some of their government departments and are hoping that this could be implemented with them.
Partners have had a number of small community events with a positive feedback on social inclusion and relationship building. In particular, a local company was organizing their year end event and through this initiative, partners were able to deliver some wonderful Africa food experiences for this company's client. Events like this one can truly have a hugely positive impact on building social cohesion.

Partners had registered Skills Village 2030 as a Secondary Cooperative in 2011 - as they had a vision of children born in 2011 and coming out of university in 2030. This initiative could therefore, contribute towards a new generation of leaders and it would be linked to the Transforming Our World - 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
