Kuwait is blessed with the abundance of fossil energy sources, yet the government is striving to conserve its national resources. Accordingly, several rules, regulations and master plans were devised to enhance the national energy efficiency and diversify energy supply.



To commit to energy efficiency, the Kuwaiti parliament has recently endorsed Environmental Law 42/2014. Some of its articles impose the adoption of energy conservation measures. In addition, a new version of the national building energy conservation code, which was enforced since 1983, has been recently released. National actions are also being supported by the government such as the national peak power reduction project which started in 2007.



From the renewable energy perspective, Kuwait aims to generate 15% of the electricity demand by 2030. To achieve this, several utility scale and distributed generation projects including the Shagaya renewable energy park are underway. This project will provide 2000 MW by 2030 (2.8% of the total demand).
