    Description
    Australia leads the International Partnership for Blue Carbon which aims to enhance the protection and restoration of coastal blue carbon ecosystems that sequester carbon in mangroves, tidal marshes and seagrasses. It aims to do so by raising awareness, sharing knowledge and accelerating practical action. The Partnership was announced during the Paris climate change conference in 2015.

    Australia is taking an active role within the region, including supporting Coral Triangle and IORA countries to collaborate on the protection of blue carbon ecosystems. This includes an initial Coral Triangle workshop in the Philippines in August 2017, with a proposed IORA summit to follow.

    The Partnership includes: Costa Rica, France, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Seychelles, the UAE, the United States, the Blue Carbon Initiative (Conservation International, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO (IOC-UNESCO)), Centre for International Forestry Research, CSIRO, Global Change Institute (University of Queensland), GRID-Arendal, SPREP, Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the Office of the Pacific Ocean Commissioner, The Nature Conservancy, Blue Ventures and WWF.

    By 2025, prevent and significantly reduce marine pollution of all kinds, in particular from land-based activities, including marine debris and nutrient pollution
