International Public Health Distributed and Online Learning Initiative with Scholarship Options
Description
EUCLID will implement the initiative through its own established mechanism to develop higher education programmes that are deliverable in a distributed environment and compliant with the academic standards in effect through the supervising Minister of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (MoHERST, Gambia). Implementation shall therefore involve the ELEMENTS online learning platform which shall be accessible with low-bandwidth in developing countries.
The online learning programme shall focus on how sustainable development is affected by public health issues with a focus on those issues affecting developing countries, notably in Africa but also in small island States (Saint Vincent, Vanuatu, Timor-Leste).
Each module shall have standalone abilities to result in the issuance of specialized certificates as intermediate milestones to a full master's degree in international public health which is the ideal but optional outcome for participants.
EUCLID will be working closely with its institutional partners and stakeholders, notably in The Gambia as headquarters State (National UNESCO Commission, to ensure that arrangements for Capacity-Building and Technology Transfer are in place. Efforts shall be integrated to translate the programme in the French language to ensure transfer to francophone institutions and stakeholders.
The program will be coordinated from EUCLID's new headquarters offices in Banjul (The Gambia, West Africa) and through EUCLID's international faculty network. The Euclid Consortium will coordinate French speaking initiatives with the University of Bangui, whose rector is a medical doctor specializing in tropical diseases. EUCLID's liaison office in the United States will coordinate with the Permanent Missions of the EUCLID Participating States to the United Nations, notably Gambia (headquarters State) and Burundi (Institutional High Steward).
