The IFOAM coordinated Sustainable Organic Agriculture Action Network (SOAAN)
Description
Description
SOAAN will develop activities that continuously lead organic agriculture and its related supply chains towards an increasingly holistic and sustainable approach to agricultural production for the benefit of all society. Network members, actors from the organic world and food chain stakeholders beyond will use SOAAN's resources and guides, including principles, objectives, best practices and indicators for the measurement of continuous improvements towards a fully sustainable agriculture and food chain. Organic production and marketing systems will be continuously enhanced resulting in it being increasingly recognized as the most appropriate production system for smallholder farmers and food and agriculture in general.
Implementation of the Project/Activity
A balanced network between north and south of visionary institutions interested in achieving sound and sustainable agriculture and food systems will be established.
Best practices references and indicators for the measurement of continuous improvements will be identified and produced and underpinned by the IFOAM Global Organic Research Network (IGORN)
The outputs and tools of SOAAN will be used for organic capacity building, strategy development, advocacy, communication, research agenda setting and standards development and integrated into IFOAM's Organic Development Mechanism (ODM) tools.
