Progress report for
Traditional Knowledge for Ocean Sustainability. The case of prehispanic Peruvian Fishing Sailing Vessels.
Achievement at a glance
H2Océanos is committed to preserving the traditional knowledge of artisanal fishing communities that use the ancient system of artisanal sailboats for their activities. We are also committed to introduce their traditional knowledge into policy issues, as their fishing methods are sustainable and environmentally friendly. To achieve that purpose, we will promote activities to preserve those ancient traditions, such as (i) the annual sailboat regatta; (ii) the production of films and videos to promote their activities for tourism; (iii) the introduction of legislation to protect their fishing grounds and formalize their fishing rights and permits; and (iv) the implementation of a Marine Protected Area (MPA) in the area along their fishing grounds to protect their natural ecosystem.
