The continuous efforts of the EU and other Contracting Parties resulted in OSPAR’s decision to identify priority sites to be considered in developing its network of marine protected areas (MPAs) and other effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs) and to, where supported by the evidence, and respecting the rights of Indigenous Peoples, collectively designate MPAs and support the adoption of other area-based conservation and management measures in areas beyond national jurisdiction in Arctic Waters, building on previous proposals and information.Challenges faced in implementation
