Progress report for
Developing networks on the environmental management of enclosed coastal seas (EMECS)
Achievement at a glance
International Center for Environmental Management of Enclosed Coastal Seas (EMECS) was going to co-organize the EMECS13 Conference in the UK in September, 2020 with Estuarine & Coastal Science Association (ECSA).Unfortunately, the conference has been postponed due to the worldwide spread of COVID-19, and it will be held online in September, 2021.
The conference will bring together a global multi-disciplinary community of researchers, educators and practitioners to address issues of outstanding importance in science (both natural and social) and the management of estuaries and coastal seas in a rapidly changing world.
Aside from preparation for the EMECS13 Conference, we co-organized the following seminar on marine environmental conservation for young people who are interested in marine research.
- EMECS Marine Environmental Science Seminar 2020 (December 2020)
Theme: State-of-the-art Science and Technology and Marne Environmental Research
Venue: Kobe city, Hyogo, Japan
From 2020, EMECS started holding the EMECS Marine Environmental Science Seminar for teachers and young people, mainly high school students who are considering majoring in fields related to the marine environment in the future and university students who are engaging in research in fields related to the marine environment, aiming to introduce marine-related research to the younger generation, mainly high school and university students, in an easy-to-understand manner and thereby increase the number of young people who are interested in marine research and broaden the base of human resources involved in marine environmental conservation to promote marine environmental conservation activities.
The first meeting, co-organized by the Graduate School of Engineering, Kobe University, was held this year with the theme "State-of-the-art Science and Technology and Marine Environmental Research" in an effort to have the opportunity to learn about and explore the possibility of the latest science and technology in current marine environmental research.
