Mainstreaming ocean conservation and sustainable fisheries in Mexico through effective participation and citizen science.
Achievement at a glance
COMMITMENT 3In the second consecutive year we achieve a new edition of the Award of Fishing and Acuacultura Sustentables as a whole with the executive power (CONAPESCA and INAPESCA) and legislative (Congress). There were to recognize effort and transcendent actions of innovation, impact, improvement or good practices developed in sustainable fishing or aquaculture in five categories: 1) rural aquaculture, 2) commercial and industrial aquaculture, 3) small scale fishing, 4) big scale fishing and 5) investigation in fishing and aquaculture. In the second edition, the number of applications increased compared to 2018, as we received 32 total applications. The award event was held on November 21 in commemoration of the World Fishing Day.
Challenges faced in implementation
1) Achieve the publication of the Agreement that issues the announcement of the Award of Fishing and Acuacultura Sustentables in the Official Gazette in a timely manner.2) The coordination and disposition of the organizing institutions.
Beneficiaries
The beneficiaries of these actions are small-scale and industrial fishers in Mexico (cooperatives, fishers), researchers and marketers.
