Progress report for
Reducing food loss and waste in the value chain for fish
Achievement at a glance
Reducing food loss and waste is globally recognized as a challenge that needs to be addressed. A key driver is the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12.3 - By 2030, halve per capita global food waste at the retail and consumer levels and reduce food losses along production and supply chains, including post-harvest losses. The 32nd Session of the Committee on Fisheries (COFI 2016) recognized the importance of reducing food loss and waste in the fish value chain, and made a plea for the development of an FAO technical guideline. In response Norway provided resources to FAO for the development of a web based guidance tool. This web tool presents available information of loss and waste scenarios, and reduction options at targeted points of the supply chain, and makes it easier to find information to develop solutions. The practical web guidance tool, addressing food loss and waste for fish in the food chain from harvest to consumer is developed, and available at FAOs website, translated into the six languages.http://www.fao.org/flw-in-fish-value-chains/en/
