Progress report for
Creating a vision to guide development of a sustainable ocean future: the Future Seas 2030 initiative
Achievement at a glance
We are pleased to report 6 very successful interdisciplinary workshops have now been completed. These workshops resulted in the development of evidence-informed scenarios of the future in 2030, for each of 12 Key Challenges facing the world\'s oceans. For each of these futures, corresponding pathways to achievement have been developed, incorporating actions at local, regional and global scales to achieve the 2030 vision most in line with an equitable and sustainable future. Papers detailing the key challenges, the alternate futures and the pathways to achievements are currently under peer-review for publication as a special issue in Reviews in Fish Biology and Fisheries later in 2020. More details can be found on the project website: www.futureseas2030.org \r\nChallenges faced in implementation
N/ABeneficiaries
To date the beneficiaries have been within the participating group of 115 researchers and traditional knowledge holders through the development of interdisciplinary skills, creation of a strong knowledge and collaborative network and exposure to different knowledge systems.
As the reports on the alternate futures and the pathways to action are published, the associated communication program will expand the breadth of beneficiaries to target government actors at a range of levels, scientists and researchers working in the ocean sustainability sphere, and the public.
Actions
Actions to date have been focused on the beneficiaries within the participating group: the 6 workshops have been used to specifically develop skills in interdisciplinary research and leadership among the early career researchers involved within the group. The upcoming communications program will target the broader range of beneficiaries.
