Industry and research driven development and introduction of selective and low impact fishing gears
Achievement at a glance
During 2014-2017, projects a total amount of 38 million SEK have been selected for funding. From 2018, funds for the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management and the secreteriate (run by the Swedish Board of Agriculture and SLU Aqua) has been renewed yearly for the continued development of selective fishing gear.The focus for selectiving fishing gears in 2019 was to help develop and increase the use of selective gear to facilitate conversion to the EU landing obligati0n. The 2019 focus also includes the development of selectivity to improve stock status, as well as more selective fishing in terms of habitat impact.In previous years, investments have been made, among other things, in demersal fishing in the Baltic Sea and the North Sea. Some projects have also included pelagic fishing. Several projects have involved the development of shrimp and crayfish trawls.
