Progress report for
Development and expansion of global, faith-based, Marine and Coastal Conservation Programme
Achievement at a glance
We were able to achieve all of our voluntary commitments. We completed and delivered a Microplastics Toolbox that has been used globally by our organization to deliver microplastics projects. Other groups have also found it helpful and can be downloaded at www.arocha.org/microplastics-toolbox. We completed training sessions for our Kenya Beach Boys programme and are currently working through our learning from that experience to better understand how to move forward. We now have a fully functional Marine Conservation Program in the USA based out of Titusville, Florida – arocha.us/marine. We have already expanded to work in southern California. We are now participating in three annual global events: The International Coastal Cleanup, the Great Global Nurdle Hunt and World Oceans Day. In 2019, thirteen of our national organizations participated in some way in the ICC. Our country programs in Kenya and the USA have active nurdle (plastic pellet) research and use this method as a citizen science approach to engagement and education. A number of our country programs highlight World Ocean Day on social media and use it as an opportunity to engage stakeholders with ocean issues.Beneficiaries
Our global network of organizations serves across six continents in 20 countries with influence through media and relationships in many more.
