Progress report for
33,000+ SQ KM Huottuja-Dearuhua (Piaroa) Cultural, Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services Provisioning Project
Achievement at a glance
Developed a Crowdfunding Campaign on GoFundMe to develop an initial trust fund to legalize the formation and development of the Piaroa Protectorate Partnership. In the process of initiating it we discovered that GoFundMe prohibits payments in Venezuela. We developed an Internet domain and social media presence which combines branding and the Piaroa story of the sustainable chocolate factory fundraising idea together with the reality of the current socio economic state of poverty the Piaroa are experiencing right now.Challenges faced in implementation
The PPP is starting out with no real funding or local sponsors because it is isolated following failed governmental policies and needs to implement the guidelines to set ourselves up from the perspective of the international community, because there are no sources of funding directly available from the government or from organizations inside Venezuela. The protagonist of the project Globcal International headed by its ambassadors including two Piaroa commissioners are seeking initial funding through personally crowdfunding a Trust Fund with Ambassador James D. Garcia, Col. David Wright, Col. Maria Veneke Ylikomi, Col. Luis Cruz, and other ambassadors of Globcal International.Next Steps
Acquire partnership sponsors from international embassies in Colombia and Venezuela that hold a public interest in civil society and the indigenous cultural value of the ecotourism region, seek other interested corporate, foundation and private sector interests in the potential of the provisioning of ecosystem services with agroforestry, biodiversity protection, ecotourism and watershed protection. We can offer guarantees by the PPP that the land being managed properly is providing a maximum to high level of ecosystem services and are eligible for protection.Beneficiaries
