Progress report for
Promoting a structured dialogue on cruise tourism between cruise operators, ports and port cities
Achievement at a glance
The regional dialogue for the North Sea, the Atlantic and the Arctic was organised in September 2017. It concluded a series of regional dialogues for all sea-basins. In these meetings, the participants had the opportunity to raise issues specific to a region (or even to some ports in particular). For instance, there were discussions about the implementation (or the lack of implementation) of the Port Reception Facilities Directive or how to address the fact that some ports are increasingly becoming places of curiosity and walk for tourists, which may entail some safety issues.A call for proposals for a Manual of good practices for cruises is currently being prepared. It will help the preparation of a roadmap, as well as the organization of a second Pan-European dialogue.
Beneficiaries
All stakeholders who are dealing with cruise tourism. These are the cruise liners (represented by the Cruising Line International Association), port authorities, local businesses like hotels, restaurants , tourist offices and local populations.
