Achievement at a glance
In line with the commitment made in June 2017, EUR 6 million have been allocated within RFMOs and Regional Fisheries Bodies (RFBs) worldwide to, among others, improve the performance of those organizations, strengthen scientific advice, tackle Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated (IUU) fishing, improve monitoring, control and enforcement, and mitigate bycatch (including sharks and rays).\r\n\r\nIn addition, the EU provides the General Fisheries Commission for the Mediterranean with EUR 3.7 million on a yearly basis. This budget supports the Commission in implementing its 2017-2020 strategy towards the sustainability of fisheries and the strategy for sustainable aquaculture development implemented in the Mediterranean and Black Sea as well as the Medfish4ever Declaration (see also Commitment 18708) .\r\n\r\nThe EU is also financially supporting the upgrading -by 2020- of the Western Central Atlantic Fishery Commission into an RFMO. EUR 300 000 were allocated for this purpose in 2018 and the implementation of the EU funding has made good progress until now.Beneficiaries
