Progress report for
Awareness campaigns on the marine mammals in the Pelagos Santuary
Achievement at a glance
Progress made on awareness campaigns on the marine mammals in the Pelagos SanctuarySeveral municipalities have signed the Partnership Charter of the Pelagos Sanctuary in 2018 and 2019 which means that the Agreement totalized more than a hundred signatories working in cooperation for the protection of marine mammals in the Sanctuary. Our goal is to improve our so-far made progress by having all municipalities of the coasts of the Pelagos Sanctuary sign our Charter.
The Pelagos Agreement organized, in cooperation with the Ramoge Agreement, in September 2017 a workshop to evaluate the existing measures capable of reducing the presence of marine litter in the area of the Pelagos Sanctuary and of the RAMOGE Agreement. The aim of the workshop was to present different experiences in the management of marine litter by the municipalities in order to identify and promote concrete measures of the virtuous municipalities.25 municipalities joined the colloquium and the event sheds light on the necessity to take actions in cooperation with various actors and to keep raising awareness on the need to protect the habitat of the Pelagos Sanctuary. After the colloquium, the Pelagos Agreement will participate in the creation of a guide on how to reduce litter addressed to the coastal municipalities and those on the watershed. The guide will include an analysis on the impact of marine litter on cetaceans.
