Progress report for
Reducing the risk of collisions between boats and large cetaceans
Achievement at a glance
Progress made on the reduction of the risk of collisionThis year, we normalized the use of the REPCET tool in order to mitigate the risk of collisions between large vessels and cetaceans in the Sanctuary. As a result to a regulation adopted in France, this tool is now mandatory in the French part of the Sanctuary, and settled on a voluntary basis in Monaco and Italy. In the implementation of the Marine Strategy Program of Measures, Italy has inserted a specific measure to prevent ship strikes based on AIS whose implementation is ongoing. On top of that, we are currently working on a workshop to let shipowners meet and discuss this burning issue to get a wide-spectrum of solutions for our updated initiatives. We are committed to increasing intervention measures so as to assure an improved protection of marine mammals!
