Promote information and Implementation of the Voluntary Guidelines for the sustainability of small scale fisheries in the context of food security and poverty eradication.
Achievement at a glance
We were able to organized the I National Congress of small scale fishers and mollusk gatherers in Costa Rica. 100 small scale fishers and mollusk gatherers of which 50 % were fisherwomen, were together to reach common objectives: - To recognize the enormous input given to our country by small scale fisheries towards development, marine conservation and sustainable use. - To value the traditional knowledge of the sector and its importance for the generation of information related to sustainable use . - To visibilizas that small scale fisheries is a way of life tight to marine territories and ocean resources from a very integrated and holistic perspective.The conclusions and recommendations were developed in a Manifiesto that has been shared with government authorities for its followed up.
Challenges faced in implementation
To be able to maintain the interest and prioritization on the small scale fisheries in a framework of human rights implementation and poverty eradication and to be able to support financially the actions oriented towards the work with vulnerable and marginalized communities when only marine conservation and preservation is being considered. Still to work on the human rights based approach and social considerations of marine conservation is not a priority.Beneficiaries
