Progress report for
Scaling up Implementation of Integrated Coastal Management (ICM) in the East Asian Seas Region
Achievement at a glance
As of mid 2018, there has been steady progress in securing PEMSEA's commitments under UN SDG ocean goal. They include:
> 102 existing ICM sites covering 17.93% (40,832 km) of the regions coastline, and 18 planned ICM sites covering 2.47% (5,628 km) of the regions coastline. Among the countries, Cambodia has 100% of its coastline covered by ICM. In the case of Lao PDR, Integrated River Basin Management (IRBM) is being implemented in Sedone River Basin covering three provinces (Champasack, Saravan and Sekong). ICM scaling up initiative is going on the right track as guided by the regions commitment under the Da Nang Compact to cover 25% of the regions coastline by 2021.
> In line with ICM implementation and scaling up, capacity building activities have been conducted from late 2014 to mid-2018 , a total of 97 trainings and workshops have been conducted (including workshops at EAS Congress 2015). While more workshops, forums and trainings are scheduled to be convened/conducted at the EAS Congress November 2018.
