Promoting standards for sustainable fisheries management and traceability of fish products on a global scale
Achievement at a glance
On 23-24 April 2018, the UNECE Team of Specialists on Sustainable Fisheries met during UN/CEFACT's biennial forum in Geneva; it was attended by 21 experts from across the globe, hailing from national government agencies, international organizations, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. At this meeting, the team discussed technical aspects of implementation, the relationship between FLUX use and preventing IUU subsidies, and a proposal to develop capacity-building resources as well as the translation of documentation into local languages.<br>
<br>On 16-17 July, together with UNCTAD, FAO, UNEP, Commonwealth Secretariat, ACP Group, and IOI, UNECE coorganized the 2nd Oceans Forum on trade-related aspects of SDG 14. The conference underlined the importance of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and its agenda as guidance for the work on oceans, and endorsed an ambitious declaration entitled Our Ocean, Our Future: Call for Action confirming Member States, civil society, international organizations and other relevant stakeholders commitment to support the implementation of SDG 14.3.
