Progress report for
Achievement at a glance
Since registering its voluntary commitment, the ICPC has obtained consultative status with the United Nations (UN) Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and appointed a United Nations Observer Representative (UNOR) who participated in the 28th Meeting of the States Parties to the UN Law of the Sea Convention, and in the 19th meeting of the Informal Consultative Process (ICP) on Anthropogenic Underwater Noise. The ICPC contributed to the important work of the ICP by nominating a panelist, Dr. Richard Hale, who presented the results of the ICPCs study on the underwater noise impact of cable operations. Dr. Hale documented the small acoustic footprint of cable operations, and their relatively minor impact on marine animals. The ICPC will continue to develop, and share with UN members and affiliated organizations, its evidence-based knowledge of the relationship between submarine cables and of the environment, and of the socio-economic benefits of submarine cables.
