Progress report for
BKT Tomorrow Water Project
Achievement at a glance
- One of the core unit technology, Anammox process is tested in pilot-scale at the oldest wastewater treatment plant in the US, the Hyperion Water Reclamation Plant.
- Nov. 20th, 2017, BKT ranked number one group in UN's SDGBI (Sustainable Development Growth Business Index announced by the UN-sponsored SDGs Korea Association, a special advisory body to the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC). The '2017 SDGBI' was an evaluation of 320 domestic major corporations and public institutions. This time, 56 companies were included in the top group and 142 companies were newly incorporated in the index.
- At the end of 2017, BKT proposed to Hanoi Sewerage and Drainage One Member Company Limited(HSDC) of Vietnam, one of the core unit technology COWT for treating the sludge of Hanoi and producing energy, composts, etc during the process. BKT is planning to do the feasibility studies during 2018 using Korean government funds.

Actions
By completing Jungrang Sewage Treatment Plant(STP) during 2017 till early 2018, BKT has successfully delivered benefit to citizens of Seoul using another one of the core unit technology, BBF. BBF is one of the most advanced wastewater treatment technology that combines both biological treatment and physical filtration in a single reactor. With over 50 references worldwide, BKT's BioFiltration (BBF) system is a versatile, innovative, and proven technology. Generally, biofiltration technology is used for secondary and tertiary treatment. BKT has continuously expanded the application of BBF to primary & wet weather flow treatment through upgrading our key components such as media and strainer blocks.
Therefore by applying this technology in Jungrang STP, not only BKT has granted to citizens of Seoul the assurance of the highest level of treatment of water, but also new opportunities, such as making the site fully underground and returning the surface of the ground to the citizens as parks and centers for various usage. BKT plans furthermore, along with our future roadmap of smart water city, BKT plans to assist Seoul city for making water the new core value of the future smart-city.
