Toilet Board Coalition
Achievement at a glance
The Toilet Board Coalition (TBC), in November 2017 successfully graduated the second cohort of it's Toiler Accelerator programme, a bespoke mentorship programme pairing sanitation entrepreneurs serving low-income markets with experts and advisors in multinational corporations to offer business learning and enable acceleration to scale. The 2017 Toilet Accelerator cohort consisted of the following companies; The Biocycle, Samagra, Safi Sana, Sanivation and Sanergy. On World Toilet Day 2017 the TBC also announced the selection of the 2018 Toilet Accelerator Cohort, which began it's mentorship programme in January of 2018. The 2018 Cohort consists of Biomass Controls, Blue Water Company, Garv Toilets, Tiger Toilet & Toilet Integration Buses (a Saraplast initiative). These five companies have co-designed a year of mentorship and milestones with their lead mentors to better enable them to scale their organisations in the coming seasons and to provide improved sanitation services to more individuals currently without. In addition to the Toilet Accelerator programme announcements the TBC, on World Toilet Day 2017, launched three new reports; 'Introducing the Sanitation Economy,' The Circular Sanitation Economy: New Pathways to Commercial and Societal Benefits Fast at Scale,' and 'The Sanitation Economy in India; Market Estimates & Insights.' These three pieces mark and lend insight into the learnings and thought leadership of the Coalition in regards to the sanitation related business models currently working towards the achievement of SDG6.2. Lending an ecosystem perspective and 'new grid' approach to highlight the business opportunities around integrating circular economy thinking and smart cities advancements into the sanitation sector.Challenges faced in implementation
The Toilet Board Coalition (TBC) continues to observe the funding challenges facing many of the entrepreneurs in this sector as they work towards profitable business models and scalable operations. In understanding this challenge, the TBC has created an Investment Review Committee which brings together investors, organisation and development banks committed to better financing this sector to review investment opportunities together and explore innovative mechanisms to increase funding to the sector.Beneficiaries
The Toilet Board Coalition (TBC) is committed to enabling those in and around the sanitation sector and throughout the Sanitation Economy that are seeking to serve improved sanitation services to unserved populations in low-income markets. The beneficiaries of the TBC's work are directly the entrepreneurs, their organisations and their ever growing customer base. The TBC is further honoured to work with an increasing number of business sectors to enable the integration of Sanitation Economy thinking and smart sanitation services into their core business approach.
