Progress report for
Renewable Energy from Coral and Karstic Formation
Achievement at a glance
In 2012, Mathematics of Planet Earth was started by mathematical science organizations from around the world designed to showcase the ways in which the mathematical sciences can be useful in tackling our worlds problems. It started with a competition in 2012, the winning modules from that competition were presented at the official opening event of the first MPE exhibition in Paris in March 2013.

There are also several pioneering initiatives in the creation of museum for coral.

One such example is IMAGINARY, a concept and a platform which started in 2008. It is supported by the United Nations through UNESCO. It was envisioned to stimulate imagination on the many domains where mathematics plays a crucial role in planetary issues.

IMAGINARY is a platform for open and interactive mathematics. It features a variety of content that can be used in schools, at home, in museums, at exhibitions or for events and media activities. The main contents of IMAGINARY are its interactive programs and its picture galleries.
The platform allows for an easy integration of new content, for example of additional mathematical subjects or exhibitions.
Another initiative from American Fulbright scholar, Yasmeen Smalley, who exhibits coral models from her research study. She did her research in the Philippines for nine and a half months, and during her grant period she went on 10 research expeditions, did 64 dives and spent 96 hours underwater, all to create the 165 3D coral models.

Such initiatives will lead into a better understanding and appreciation of coral protection, helping contribute to the well-being of our oceans. Both platforms allows for an easy integration of new content, for example of additional mathematical subjects or exhibitions and how to realize a physical exhibit in a museum.
