Progress report for
Narrative Atlas (narrativeatlas.org)
Achievement at a glance
MapWorks Learning is currently initiating two projects within Narrative Atlas, its online geospatial collaboration space:\\r\\n\\r\\n(1) the Doing it Together Science Challenge (https://ecsa.citizen-science.net/blog/launching-student-citizen-science-challenge), led by the European Citizen Science Association\\r\\n\\r\\n(2) a collaborative partnership between the Lindblom Math & Science Academy in Chicago and Kashai Secondary School in Bukoba, Tanzania.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe Doing It Together Science (DITOs) Challenge invites students and teachers to use visual storytelling to reflect on and share their student citizen science projects exploring aspects of environmental monitoring and sustainability. \\r\\n\\r\\nNarrative Atlas's initial school-to-school partnership has linked two secondary schools, each situated within 10 miles of one of the largest lakes in the world: Lindblom Math & Science Academy in Chicago, near Lake Michigan, and Kashai Secondary School, in Bukoba, the capital of Kagera, a northern province of Tanzania, bordering Lake Victoria. Students will work together to improve water quality and access in their schools and communities.\\r\\n\\r\\nTeachers from each school are participating in facilitated planning, adapting existing curricula, and guiding their students through the study of local and global water issues. The initial project will produce a curriculum and project model linked to the SDGs that will then be adapted by other school pairs in the spring and summer of 2018, with mentorship from the original set of teachers.Beneficiaries
Students in Tanzania, the United States, and several European countries will benefit through direct learning.
