Provision of subject matter expertise on the application of risk management tools in regulatory frameworks supporting SDG14
Achievement at a glance
The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) Group of Experts on Risk Management in Regulatory Systems, in collaboration with the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea will hold a Symposium on Management tools and standards in support of Sustainable Development Goal 14 “Life below water”.<br>
<br>The symposium will create an opportunity for managers, policy developers and researchers to review concepts and practices as well as to address scientific, policy and regulatory challenges of operationalizing the ecosystem-based management through the use of technical standards and risk management approaches.
<br>
<br>The symposium features four theme sessions.
<br>Session 1: Understanding the bridges between managing the activities and their pressures in a regulatory context versus protection and conservation measures.
<br>Session 2: The use of current environmental indicators as Key Performance Indicators (KPI), Key Risk Indicators (KRI) and Key Control Indicators (KCI).
<br>Session 3: The role of governance and policy in establishing the risk context, and the role of stakeholders in the understanding of risk tolerance in the development of regulatory approaches and technical standards.
<br>Session 4: The role of scientific and technical advisory process in risk-based regulatory decision-making to ensure the independence of the advice.
