Progress report for
Enhancing research and awareness on the impact of ocean acidification and climate change on tropical marine ecosystems
Achievement at a glance
1. An awareness programme on the impacts of climate change and ocean acidification (OA) was successfully conducted at CEMACS in July 2017. The target audience were young professionals not in the field of science. This 3-day event involved lectures, demonstration and field visits. Participants were then asked to demonstrate their understanding by performing a play/sketch to targeted audience such as school children, local fishermen, and tour operators - to convince them on the issues and impact of OA.<br>2. ‎A long term monitoring site was chosen from several shortlisted locations. This site follows the agreed collaboration between several countries where a standardized protocol will be observed for the long term monitoring of OA. The chosen site is located on the northern part of the SOM. Baseline information on the parameters to be monitored for the OA studies have been done. We hope the long term monitoring here and her sister sites over a large geographical scale will reveal some of the development and impacts of OA on coral reefs and its associated habitats.
