UNIDO Programme for Country Partnership for Peru
Achievement at a glance
Throughout 2016, the Government of Peru (GoP) and UNIDO, together with partners, worked on mobilizing resources and developing projects for PCP priority areas. Funding was secured from the Global Environment Facility to transform the industrial area of Callao into a sustainable industrial zone. UNIDO technical expertise helped the GoP to develop a national strategy for the design, construction and management of new sustainable industrial parks. An assessment of twenty Innovation and Technology Centres (CITEs) provided inputs for a new CITE model focused on business sector needs. UNIDO and the National Institute of Quality also developed a roadmap for the promotion of a national culture of quality.
Next Steps
Partnership and resource mobilization will continue in 2017. UNIDO will continue to provide technical assistance to promote and facilitate investment in key industrial projects, including sustainable industrial parks, aquaculture production and Innovation and Technology Centres. A roadmap for the integrated development of the aquaculture value chain will be finalized, along with a comprehensive project to strengthen innovation capacities among business consortia and networks in selected value chains. A project to strengthen quality compliance and export competitiveness in the cocoa and coffee sectors, currently in the pipeline, will also be launched.
