Progress report for
Digicel Pacific and UNISDR Pacific Partnership: Strengthening Businesses Resiliency & Disaster Preparedness
Achievement at a glance
Utilising the strengths of Digicel’s business networks and products and the technical expertise of UNISDR, Pacific business awareness of disaster risk reduction and access to recovery products has been increased. Between 2014 and 2016 this has been achieved through:\r\n\r\n• 2 x DRR and Recovery Product awareness workshops (Suva and Nadi) – 2014\r\n• 3 x DRR Workshops for Small and Medium Enterprises (Suva, Nadi and Apia) – 2015 & 2016\r\n• 2 x Private Sector representatives trained as trainers to continue DRR Workshops for Small and Medium Enterprises in the Pacific - 2016\r\nChallenges faced in implementation
Challenges since 2014 have been geographical distances between islands, which increases transaction costs associated with training and the different connectivity standards between Pacific Island Countries and Territories. Demand for assistance with Business Continuity Management greatly exceeds existing resources and training opportunities available to Small Medium Enterprises in the Pacific, and limited opportunities for financial support from bilateral donors.Next Steps
Digicel and UNISDR are currently exploring options to revitalise the partnership to continue.Beneficiaries
