Progress report for
World Social Capital Monitor
Achievement at a glance
The initiative built up partnerships in 15 countries and assesses the Social Capital in 30 languages and 140 countries yet. Cambodia is the first country to assessing the Social Capital of all its 24 provinces and Phnom Penh online, mobile and by interviews for rural areas with illiterates or without digital access.\r\nNine of the partnerships are featured in our attached report. The World Social Capital Monitor is mostly appreciated in developing countries were partners react quick and positive to enhance their Social Capital to achieving the SDG.Challenges faced in implementation
Three aspects are interfering the implementation of the Social Capital Assessment in all countries and regions:\r\n\r\n1) Global organizations such as the World Bank, the UN Development Programme, the UNHCR, the IMF, the OHCHR, Amnesty International and others \r\n hesitate to collaborate due to their fixed agendas and as well because of issues cutting across with Social Capital such as Social Development, Social \r\n Cohesion, Social Impact, Social Entrepreneurship, Human Rights, Governance, Civil Society, Voluntarism, Public Goods and even Philanthropy .\r\n\r\n2) Foundations and donors have fixed agendas as well as fixed target subjects and countries that avoid to regard Social Capital as an interdisciplinary \r\n subject contributing to many developing issues such as to health, education, rural development, governance, security, microfinance, water and energy \r\n supply and ecological issues such as climate change.\r\n\r\n3) Three Nobel laureates, Amartya Sen, Elinor Ostrom and Joseph Stiglitz were reclaiming the consideration of Social Capital a decade before yet without \r\n any reaction of the decision makers in politics and economy. So social scientists have to proof that their concepts directly help the people and not only \r\n indirectly by delivering data and knowledge.\r\n\r\nSo the World Social Capital Monitor will be an exam for the capability of Social Sciences to directly help to overcome conflicts and crises by identifying, enhancing, protecting, developing and rebuilding local Social Capital all over the world.\r\n\r\nSo at the moment we can only involve smaller national partners with limited capacities to forward the World Social Capital Monitor in their countries or in the countries they are committed in their developing aid.Next Steps
We applied for the Innovation Exchange Programme within the SDG Partnership Initiative and calculated the need of funding by $ 1,35 million. \r\nThe funding will allow us to support our small NGO partners in all countries by our technology (individual accounts) and as well by money ($200 to $ 2000 per partner)\r\nIf we don\'t achieve a funding, we will continue our assessment on a voluntary base because it\'s extremely satisfying and encouraging to watch the scores coming in from all over the world every hour.\r\n\r\nWhat we will not do is to collaborate with the big social networks such as Google, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and others because we want the World Social Capital Monitor to being free of advertising and not becoming a traffic generator to gather revenues for companies that destroy the economic perspectives of SME websites (by cannibalizing their advertising revenues), of countries (by not paying taxes) and of innovative programmers (by controlling the systems and standards).\r\n\r\nThe World Social Capital Monitor will find its users by credibility and reciprocity, by altruism and local engagement, by trust and helpfulness. It\'s a \'Social Media\' in the meaning of the word.Beneficiaries
