Next Steps

The aim of this project is to enlighten students on the available job opportunities that can be found in plastic. The project is called Do Away with Plastic on campus #DAWP is a pilot project using the Home Economics Department, three classes at Ofoase Senior High Technical School with three volunteers. Plastics are not an Environmental, Incineration, landfill and ocean problem. They’re a people’s problem. Believe it or not, this is reason for hope. Because people are the problem, that means we are also the solution.
As a green business our goal is triple fold; to recycle water sachet bags and thus provide an alternative waste management solution to the plastic menace, to provide an affordable alternative to Efiewura bag (To curb plastic pollution and reduce the effects of climate change) and to provide employment and thus a source of living to many unemployed youths. As the world is emphasizing on reducing the effects of climate change, our project provides an alternative product to efiewura bag so as to reduce plastic pollution. Our Plan is for coming three years to withdraw over 50000 of plastic water sachets bags from the environment and use them to manufacture plastic products like backpack, lunch bags etc. Plastic recycling also saves 2.5 kg CO2/kg plastic hence we will be preventing 2,500,000 kg of CO2 emissions further mitigating climate change. Also students benefit from this project because DAWPIS help improve students skills, employability skills, build their capacity and last they learn how plastics can be use to mitigate plastic pollution.
