Creating an Observatory on the blue economy
Achievement at a glance
The Observatory is fully operational. It was launched in May 2022. A Blue Economy Report 2022 was delivered.In 2023, a contract was signed for technical support in data collection and acquisition, the elaboration of thematic reports, studies and analysis, and communication/dissemination activities. It has also assisted the initial phase of the Energy Transition Partnership for the EU Fisheries and Aquaculture.
In 2024, a Steering Committee was created. Its purpose is to provide advice and suggestions on databases and data analysis needs, as well as on publications and events.
In 2024, news sections were included on country profiles and on employment and educational opportunities.
Since October 2024 a monthly newsletter has been released, with news and information related to the data analysis and contents of the Blue Economy Observatory.
Challenges faced in implementation
A single Blue Economy index, reports on indirect and induced economic impacts of the EU Blue Economy sectors, as well as the creation of Ocean Satellite accounts still need to be fully deployed.Next Steps
