Progress report for
Committing EUR 30 million for research on the ocean-climate nexus
Achievement at a glance
The following three projects have been launched and have started implementing their research plans.1. EPOC, Explaining and Predicting the Ocean Conveyor
Its activities can be followed on a dedicated website News & Events - Project EPOC (https://epoc-eu.org/news-events/)
2. OCEAN:ICE, Ocean Cryosphere Exchanges in ANtarctica: Impacts on Climate and the Earth system
The project contributed to the European Polar Science Week in 2024 (see Ocean;ICE, https://ocean-ice.eu/european-polar-science-week-2024/). It also includes a repository of information and resources (see Ocean:ICE/knowledge-hub, https://ocean-ice.eu/knowledge-hub/)
More information about the results and deliverables as well as factsheets are publicly available (see Ocean:ICE-communities, https://zenodo.org/communities/oceanice/records?q=&l=list&p=1&s=10&sort=newest)
3. OCEAN:ICU, Improving Carbon Understanding
The project has held regular webinars that are available at OceanICU-Webinars (https://ocean-icu.eu/webinars/). It also has target content For policy makers - OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/oceanicu-scientists-will-provide-policy-makers-with-effective-tools-for-climate-management/); For industry - OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/for-industry/); For scientists - OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/ocean-scientific-expertise/); For civil society - OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/oceanicu-scientists-collaborating-and-co-designing-with-civil-society/); For wider society - OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/science-educational-pathways-for-wider-society/) and organised a side event/webinar at the UNFCCC COP29 on: "The Ocean Carbon Cycle: Bridging science, policy development and concrete action" COP29 Azerbaijan-OceanICU (https://ocean-icu.eu/event/cop29-azerbaijan/)
