Committing EUR 13 million in voluntary contributions to international organisations and regional fisheries management organisations
Achievement at a glance
Funding was awarded to 17 projects were awarded in 2021 and2022. Part of the projects were successfully implemented despite COVID period challenges. Remaining projects were granted an extension of the implementation period to maximise the outcome of expected objectives.The goal of these projects is to help organisations to reach their objectives.
The EU contributions have been instrumental to promote international ocean governance in international organisations such as at the UN and FAO, to develop an international legal framework (BBNJ Agreement) and to strengthen data collection, scientific research and science-based decisions. They have also contributed to the monitoring of fishing activities, improving the performance of the RFMOs, the undertaking of regular performance reviews and contributing to the fight against Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated fishing in RFMOs across the globe.
Challenges faced in implementation
