Rachel Jewkes
Executive Scientist, South African Medical Research Council
Professor Rachel Jewkes is the Executive Scientist in the South African Medical Research Council. She is a medical doctor and Specialist in Public Health Medicine. She has led the South African Medical Research Council’s Gender and Health Research programme for 25 years. She is a founder member of the Sexual Violence Research Initiative and from 2013-2020 was the Consortium Director of the UKAID-funded What Works to Prevent Violence? Global Programme, leading research on prevention of violence against women in 13 countries. She is a member of the Global Programme Advisory Committee of the UN Trust Fund, Leadership Council of the Sexual Violence Research Initiative and a member of the WHO’s Expert Advisory Panel on Injury and Violence Prevention and Control. She is an author of over 300 publications.
