
Ms. Shahira Wahbi
Chief, sustainable development and international cooperation, League of Arab States
Ambassador Shahira Wahbi is the Chief of Sustainable Development and International Cooperation at the League of Arab States on deputation from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan, where she worked since 1988. Before that, she worked as a research assistant and volunteered to work with the Sudanese Council of Churches on displaced people in Sudan in 1986.
During the period 1992 /1993, she served at Sudan’s Embassy in Morocco and represented her country to the UN in New York during the period 1994/1997. She was responsible for multilateral relations at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Sudan during the period 1998/2000, after which she joined the League of Arab States in Cairo.
Currently she is in charge of sustainable development issues at the League of Arab States. She coordinates all the work pertaining to cooperation with regional and international organizations. Ms. Wahbi also serves in the technical Secretariat of three Arab ministerial councils, namely the Arab ministerial council for environment, for water resources and for housing. Ms. Wahbi obtained a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science from Khartoum University in 1985, and a high diploma in international relations from the Institut International d’Administration Public in France, in 1989. She was born on 29 August 1962 in Khartoum.
