Ms. Josefina Bunge
Elected Vice-Chair - Latin American & Caribbean States Group
Ms. Josefina Bunge was elected Vice-chair of the Bureau for the Preparatory Process of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, representing the Latin American and the Caribbean States. Ms. Josefina Bunge is a Second Secretary at the Permanent Mission Argentina to the United Nations.
Ms. Bunge deals with sustainable development issues at her Mission. During the Argentine chairmanship of the Group of 77 and China for the year 2011, Ms. Bunge coordinated and led the Group in many negotiation processes, including the preparation process for the Rio plus 20 Conference.
Before being posted to the Permanent Mission of Argentina to the United Nations in New York, she worked at the Legal Adviser's Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Argentina where she participated in a number of international negotiations and conferences related to sustainable development issues, including law of the sea, fisheries and biodiversity. Ms. Bunge was part of the Argentine team in the case before the ICJ concerning Pulp Mills on the River Uruguay.
Previously, Ms. Bunge was an associate at the Brussels office of Hunton and Williams LL.P. where she advised industries on regulatory, risk and liability issues, WTO issues and on EU regulatory law, including chemical regulation, electronic regulation, energy and life science. From 2005 to 2008 Ms. Bunge was a Professor of International Law at the Universidad Católica Argentina and lecturer of International Law at the University of Buenos Aires.
Ms. Bunge graduated from the University of Buenos Aires with honours. She holds a Master's Degree (LLM) from the London School of Economics (with merits). She is married and has two daughters.
