
Mr. Munawar Saeed Bhatti
Elected Vice-Chair - Asian Group
Mr. Munawar Saeed Bhatti was elected Vice-Chair of the Bureau for the Preparatory Process of the UN Conference on Sustainable Development, representing the Asian Group.
Mr. Munawar Saeed Bhatti is Additional Foreign Secretary in charge of International Organizations, Security, Disarmament and Economic Coordination. In this post, he is responsible for multilateral negotiations including on development and climate change related issues since July 2009.
Mr. Munawar Saeed Bhatti is a career diplomat. He joined Pakistan Foreign Service in 1982 and has served in important positions during his long career. He served as Pakistan?s High Commissioner to New Zealand from 2006 to 2009. He has served as Desk Officer India and Desk Officer China, Japan/Koreas. He twice headed India Division at the Foreign Ministry in Islamabad in early 90s and early last decade. He served two terms at the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi as First Secretary from 1994-1997, and then as Charge d' Affaires / Deputy High Commissioner from 2003-2006. He also served as Counsellor at Pakistan's Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, as First Secretary at High Commission in Dhaka (Bangladesh), and as Third / Second Secretary in Dubai, UAE. He acted as national focal point for multilateral agencies and donors for humanitarian assistance to flood affected people during unprecedented floods of 2010.
He holds a Master's Degree from Punjab University. He is married and has three sons and one daughter.
