Vice-president Chief Executive Officer of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, Minister Plenipotentiary, Special Adviser to the Prime Minister on sustainable development issues
His Excellency Bernard Fautrier, a Monegasque citizen, was born in Monaco in 1945.
He studied at the Institut d’études politiques in Paris, from which he graduated in 1965 and obtained a Master’s degree in political science from the Faculty of Law of Paris in 1967. Starting as a civil servant within the French Ministry of Economy, he returned to Monaco in 1969. There, he was put in charge of the Urban Development Directorate, and was later appointed as the Director General of the Public Works Department.
From 1984 to 1995, he was Minister for Public Works and Social Affairs for the Government of Monaco.
From 1995 to August 2003, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Principality of Monaco to Switzerland, Lichtenstein and to United Nations Office at Geneva and other international organization based in Geneva, as well as Minister for International Cooperation in Monaco.
He has been active for many years in the field of environment and international relations, chairing the organizing committee for EVS 21, the Barcelona Convention for the Protection of the Mediterranean Sea , the RAMOGE Agreement and MC2D (Monaco Sustainable Development, an NGO active in this field).
Since 2006 he has been appointed as Minister Plenipotentiary, Head of Missions to the Prime Minister for sustainable development issues. He is also Vice-President and CEO of the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation and a Member of the Oceanographic Institute’s Board of Directors.
In 2009 he has been appointed President of the Monaco Committee of the World Energy Council. In 2018/2019 he runs on behalf of Monaco the co-chairing of the International Coral Reef Initiative.
