Cynthia McDougall

Dr Cynthia McDougall is a Senior Research Fellow with the Stockholm Environment Institute (SEI). She leads SEI’s Gender, Environment and Development (GED) research cluster in Asia and co-leads SEI’s global research program on Gender Equality, Social Equity, and Poverty. This portfolio includes research in the areas including equitable natural resource governance, climate financing, resilience, bioeconomy, food systems and environmental human rights defenders. Dr McDougall is an interdisciplinary social scientist with over 20 years of experience in gender, social equity and inclusion in natural resource and food systems research. Prior to joining SEI, her work included leading gender research for WorldFish in the One CGIAR. There she led gender, equity and inclusion research and integration in smallscale fisheries and aquaculture across Asia, Africa and the Pacific for the CGIAR Research Program on Fish Agri-food Systems (‘FISH’). She has been spearheading the development of gender transformative approaches since 2015, with a particular interest how these approaches can leverage scalable shifts towards equality, equity, poverty reduction, food security and sustainability.
